Another Center Point landmark bites the dust :-(
I remember the Capri Theatre
(Riviera Fitness now). I remember the Mustang Drive-in (Food Giant
now). I remember Kelly's Hamburgers (Food Giant parking lot now).
Now ... I remember Krystal Hamburgers.

What is CP going to do with $237,000 of grant funds that are supposed to "revitalize" HWY 75? How about a red-light camera system? Check out the "NEWS" section.
Postmaster General Potter gets a $135,000 performance bonus despite telling Congress that the U.S. Post Office will be nearly $236B in debt by 2020. Want to be angry? In May, 2010, the U.S. Post Office will raise stamp prices by 2¢. In 2007, the Postmaster General's salary rose from $186,000 to $235,000 per year. Total all of his benefits and perks and Potter receives nearly $850,000 per year in compensations. Has he managed the U.S. Postal Service out of debt? NO! Has he devised a way to improve customer service and reduce unnecessary personnel expenditures? NO! Has he convinced Congress to close unnecessary Post Offices because he has devised a way to deliver better services to those customers even without a Post Office? NO! Has John Potter done anything since he took office besides raise rates, reduce services, and drive the U.S. Postal Service into the ground? Not that I can tell. My question ... where's Congress? Can you guess where they have their heads?
Want to make your head spin? Think our returning vets deserve better? Read on ... Headline (no kidding) - VA Workers Bag Hefty Bonuses - Washington ... Outside the Veterans Affairs Department, severely wounded veterans faced financial hardship waiting for their first disability payment. Inside money has been flowing in the form of $24M in bonuses. In scathing reports, the VA's Inspector General said thousands of technology office employees at the VA received bonuses over a two-year period, some under questionable circumstances. It also detailed abuses ranging from nepotism to an inappropriate relationship between two VA employees. Headline the very next week (no kidding) - Auditors can't find VA equipment. I would be upset but ... from our government ... it's not surprising. Do me a favor ... just think about this situation before you start thinking about government run health care. AHHHHHHH! SAVE ME!!
Your cell phone number can now be published! Think about this
folks ... if a sales rep calls your cell phone in an attempt to get some
business ... you are the one getting the business because you are
the one paying for the call!
Another "secret meeting" for Center Point's proposed "Industrial Park"? It's in the NEWS section.
The continuing saga of Mrs. Deborah Johnson and her quest to get out of Center Point ...
13 August, 2009 - Council
President Roger Barlow tells a fellow citizen that, in his opinion, he
will vote no on her request. He admitted to saying the same thing
to her previously during her telephone conversation with him. October 08, 2010 - Once again, Mrs. Johnson tried again. Or at least she was scheduled to speak. She failed to appear. Maybe she was ill? October 22, 2010 - Mrs. Johnson once again appealed to the City Council to allow her to de-annex from Center Point. Council President Barlow commented on a matter of over-due "fire dues." Mrs. Johnson told the councilmen that she kept the property in a nice condition (grass cut and yard cleaned). Again the City Council tabled the request without taking action. February, 2010 - Once again, Mrs. Johnson appeared before the CP City Council to request that her property in Center Point be de-annexed. This time she brought State Senator Linda Coleman (D) (20) to speak on her behalf. Senator Coleman spoke concisely and with polite tonality. On the other hand, she could have brought Barack Obama and Council President Barlow would have still denied the request. You just have to understand this man's mindset. He, nor Mayor Henderson for that matter, will ever do anything that will take away any source of revenue for the city. Think about this ... Mayor Henderson is against repealing the tax on groceries because it will mean less money that the city will have to spend (his words, not mine). I can't wait for the next chapter in this saga to unfold.
BJCTA's big idea to start requiring contracts with cities served is really Center Points idea. It's in the NEWS section.
Congratulations Miss
Susannah Higgins - 2010 Miss Center Point.
This pageant is a relic from 50's era
America. No major television networks have displayed any interest
in producing the Miss America Pageant. The pageant has been
relegated to obscure cable channels. Maybe it's time to let this
relic go the way of the B-52 bomber. It's still here ... but not
for long.
Center Point's first Festival of the Springs! Place ... Reed-Harvey Park. Date ... 10 April, 2010. Center Point's first celebration in the new million dollar park!
